Knowledge In 2005, I received a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and graduated from the University of Florida with honors. I then attended the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. I was awarded Dean’s List recognition or the equivalent for three semesters. Competing in a national mock trial competition as a member of the trial team helped to develop my trial skills. Because of these skills, I was awarded a Book Award in recognition of my having earned the highest grade in my trial advocacy class. In 2008, I received my law degree. I was made to be a trial lawyer from the start at the University of Florida. In 2008, I passed the Florida Bar Examination and was sworn in as a Florida barred attorney. Shortly thereafter, because of my exceptional results on the Florida Bar Examination, the Florida Board of Bar Examiners invited me to become a Florida Board of Bar Examiners Exam Reader. Essentially, I had an opportunity to both grade and write the Florida Bar Examination. I accepted this honor and obligation and faithfully did so for six years.
Understanding All of my adult life, I’ve been a hard worker. I started working at age 14, while in high school. While in college, I worked at Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a clinical surgery technician. Hard work is what I have done and it is what I do. And I have never taken kindly to friends and loved ones being disrespected by the powerful. Becoming a lawyer was the route that I took to put myself in a position to serve those who cannot fight for themselves.
Experience After serving three years as an Assistant State Attorney in Orlando, FL I was hired at the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office in Atlanta, GA and quickly became the youngest attorney assigned to the major case division where the most serious and high profile cases were prosecuted. In 2012, District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. awarded me the Trial Rookie of the Year Award. In 2013, District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr. awarded me the Major Case Rookie of the Year Award. I earned the title of Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney after having tried seven murder trials in the major case division. After that promotion I went on to try several more murder cases. In 2015, I was assigned to the most high profile unit in the office, the Public Integrity Unit (“PIU”). While assigned to PIU, I prosecuted cases involving officer involved shootings and murders as well as government officials that engaged in criminal conduct. During this particular assignment, I learned the ins and outs of how to investigate and prove cases of law enforcement misconduct. The skills developed while in PIU serve my clients well when preparing their criminal defenses and when litigating civil cases which involve officers’ use of excessive force and constitutional violations. As a prosecutor, I have prosecuted cases ranging from DUI’s to murder including a death penalty case. The experience I have obtained has given me the capability to handle the most complex litigation.
